Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including anyone browsing with a keyboard alone, a screen reader, a magnifier, or with motion and colour settings turned down.

It is measured against WCAG 2.2 level AA, which is the standard referenced by the Equality Act 2010 in the United Kingdom, the European Accessibility Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act in the United States.

What has been done

  • Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring that never relies on colour by itself
  • A skip link is the first thing focus reaches, so the navigation can be bypassed
  • Text meets or exceeds a 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio against its background, verified by calculation rather than by eye
  • Headings run in order, landmarks are marked up, and the page language is declared
  • Every image carries a text alternative, and decorative marks are hidden from screen readers
  • The films of client sites play silently, carry a pause control, and do not start at all if your system asks for reduced motion
  • Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels
  • The menu is fully removed from the keyboard order and the accessibility tree while it is closed
  • Nothing on the site relies on hover alone to reach information, and nothing flashes
  • Fonts are served from this domain, so no request leaves for a third party before the page renders

What is not perfect

Stating this plainly matters more than claiming a clean sheet.

  • The work index shows screenshots of client websites. The text inside those screenshots is a picture of text, and while every one is described in its alt text, the wording within an image cannot be read out or resized.
  • The client sites linked from here are separate websites with their own accessibility standing, which is outside our control.
  • This site has been tested against the standard by hand and by measurement, but it has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist or tested with every assistive technology.

If something does not work for you

Tell us and it will be fixed. Email harrisonross555@gmail.com with the page and what happened. You will get a reply within one working day, and anything that blocks you from using the site is treated as urgent.

Enforcement

In the United Kingdom, the Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for enforcing the Equality Act 2010. If you raise something and are not satisfied with the response, you can contact them.
